Initié par Rob Cole, compositeur et chanteur anglophone, Friend of all the world, plus qu’un groupe de folk, est un mouvement permanent qui réunit en son sein des musiciens de passage provenant des 4 coins du monde.
Actuellement soutenu par Benoît Duval (guitare, banjo, chant, harmonica) et Charles-Louis Roseau (mandoline, harmonium, banjo, percussions), Rob Cole aime à penser que la musique et les rencontres comptent tout autant, si ce n’est plus, que le son de sa propre voix.
Auteur d’un premier album 9 titres sorti en mars dernier, travaillant déjà à la réalisation d’un prochain opus, le collectif Friend of all the world offre à qui veut l’entendre une musique propice à l'évasion - douce, raffinée et teintée de nostalgie.«Those of us who like well-crafted, slightly countrified, mellow folks tunes, but have no patience for guitar-wielding dudes with no greater griefs to sing about than their hot ex-girlfriends, will find a friend indeed in Friend of all the World, aka Montrealers Rob Cole Kenton Mail and Charles-Louis Roseau. Cole’s self-produced debut, Up These Branches, is the work of a singer-songwriter who likes music more than the sound of his own voice, which is saying something, since his restrained vocals ground the album’s nine tracks. Percussion, banjo, and other strings are layered into rich arrangements that conjure melancholy without melodrama. If bluegrass is porch-sitting music, this must be its urban cousin.»
